A new chapter in Cypriot women’s football begins today.
Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC are proud to announce the official launch of our professional women’s football team, which will compete in the Cyprus Women’s First Division.
Built on ambition, professionalism and a commitment to developing the women’s game, Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC has been established with a clear purpose: to build a club capable of competing at the highest level while creating meaningful opportunities for female footballers across the Municipality of Akamas, Peyia and the wider Paphos district.
This is not simply the launch of a football team. It is the beginning of a long-term project designed to establish a professional, sustainable and competitive environment in which players and staff can thrive.
At the heart of that vision is a commitment to respect, teamwork and excellence.
James Thomas appointed Head Coach
As part of the club’s preparations for its inaugural campaign, Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC is delighted to announce the appointment of James Thomas as Head Coach.
Thomas arrives with more than 20 years of experience across professional club football, international management and elite academy development within the women’s game.
A highly qualified coach, Thomas holds the UEFA A Licence, UEFA Elite Youth Licence and FA Talent ID Level 3 qualifications.
His career has taken him across the international and professional game, including a spell as Head Coach of the Trinidad & Tobago Women’s National Team within CONCACAF, as well as serving as an Assistant Coach with the Wales Women’s National Teams.
At club level, he has held senior leadership positions with Bristol City Women and, most recently, Newcastle United Women in England.
Thomas is also an active contributor to the development of coaching internationally, presenting for platforms including Elite Soccer Coaching and the English FA Women’s Coach Development Programme.
His appointment underlines the club’s determination to establish high professional standards from day one.
Speaking about his new role, Thomas said:
“I’m excited to join Peyia-Akamas LFC. This is a club with real ambition, and I’m looking forward to building an environment where every player and member of staff can be genuinely proud of what we achieve together.”
Building something for the future
Behind the scenes, significant work has taken place over recent months to establish the foundations of the club and recruit a strong management and playing structure.
A competitive playing squad has now been assembled, with the full roster set to be revealed over the coming weeks.
The club’s ambitions extend beyond the immediate season.
Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC aims to become a recognised centre for women’s football in the region — providing talented players with the opportunity to develop, compete and proudly represent Peyia, the Municipality of Akamas and the Paphos district.
The club also intends to create an environment where the next generation can see a genuine pathway within the women’s game and be inspired to pursue their own footballing ambitions.
A new era starts today
The launch of Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC marks a significant moment for women’s football in the region.
With an experienced coaching team, an ambitious playing squad and a clear long-term vision, the club is ready to take its place in the Cyprus Women’s First Division.
We welcome every player, coach, staff member, supporter and partner who will become part of this journey.
